Hello all,
Today marks a very important anniversary for many people. Twenty-three years ago our world changed when the US was attacked. We hold the many feelings and experiences of those affected in our prayers. Many people recall where they were and what they were doing.
Today, there are millions of young people who weren't alive or don't recall that day. When memories become stories, the significance can change or may be hard to properly convey. I think I better understand the collective grief that some groups experience. My mother still clearly recalls the news when President Kennedy was assassinated, but I only knew about it from stories.
Conveying the significance of an event is something God's people wrestled with over the generations. The experience of crossing the Red Sea on dry land, freed from slavery, was forgotten by some. The gratitude for God's providence and Jesus's healing hands became an anecdote to others.
The pain of loss or the joy of triumph that many of you have experienced in your lives benefits us when those memories live on. What challenges are people facing today that you might come alongside them on? What memories of significance might you pass along to others? May God be our guide.
Best,
Marcus
