Welcome to the week of Hope!

“Advent” means “coming” or “arrival.” During the season of Advent, we celebrate Christ’s coming into the world and watch with expectant hope for his coming again. We anticipate the promised justice of God’s new world. This year, Advent begins on Sunday, December 3.

The four weeks of Advent present an opportunity for anticipation and reflection, as the church prepares to celebrate the Nativity of the Lord and looks with hope for Christ’s return.

The first week of Advent is symbolized by the first candle on the Advent wreath. This candle stands for hope, and specifically, the Israelites' hope that the promised Messiah would come. They had been waiting for the Messiah for centuries, wondering what he would look like and what he would do when he arrived.

What are you hopeful for this Advent season?
