“Will we have a house in heaven? Where is heaven? In the sky? Can you show me?”
- A Curious Kid
Dear Curious Kid,
These are great questions. I have questions about heaven, too, and the Bible doesn’t give us all of the answers we sometimes want… But Jesus does say that God is preparing a place for us in heaven, and he talks about big houses with lots of rooms (John 14:1-3). So maybe we will have houses there! The Bible also talks about a new heaven and a new earth. A new earth! I wonder what that could look like… Could you imagine earth with no sadness or pain or bad things? What does a better earth look like? I think that’s a good place to start! (If you haven’t read The Chronicles of Narnia, you might want to do that! The Last Battle offers a beautiful fantastical vision of a new heaven and a new earth.)
I’m not sure if heaven is in the sky. I’m not sure where it is. I do know that heaven is a place where we have a rich and full connection with God and with each other. I’d like to imagine that means cool houses and amazing food and beautiful music, too. What do you think heaven is like?
