In honor of women everywhere, especially those who have come before us and impacted our world and communities through their efforts and dedicated service, the Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside is pleased to join other churches in New Jersey in the Period Project throughout the month of March.
What is the Period Project? It's an international effort to raise awareness of the existance of "period poverty" - ie, that women and girls everywhere are impacted by the unavailability of sufficient menstrual hygiene products due either to inability to afford the products or lack of access to products locally.
Period poverty is a public health issue, resulting in mental health issues including feelings of shame, hopelessness, and isolation, as well as poor bodily hygiene and significant risks to physical well-being. One in three (1 in 3) low income women miss
work, school, and outings because of a lack of period supplies.
We can make a difference today! Join us at CPC in spreading the word, and also in the collection of donated products - pads, tampons, period underwear, etc. All items will be donated to the Community Foodbank of New Jersey's menstrual equity program.
Donation details:
Donations of products can be either
via the amazon wishlist - purchase the specific items on the list or similar items (we are not brand sensitive, the list contains types of needed items), or
purchased locally and dropped off in small bin located by front church doors of
Community Presbyterian Church (CPC)
1459 Deer Path
Mountainside, NJ 07090
Financial donations can be made by check made out to Community Presbyterian Church (please note Period Project on memo line) and either mailed or dropped off in mailbox (also located by church front doors).
Also, items can be purchased online via many merchants' websites and delivered to CPC at the address above (to attention of Diann Roth, Office Administrator).
Our collection is today through Sunday April 6. Thank you for helping others!
